The first shots of the Volkswagen ID.4 all-electric crossover hit the Internet. A product version of the new vehicle is showing off without camouflage. Engine power, dimensions and range are known.
By chance or not, several photos leaked from a Chinese source. It is clear why: VW has a great business in China and has high hopes for the new model.
As expected, the series ID.4 has a lot in common with the ID.Crozz and ID.Crozz II concepts introduced in 2017.
The dimensions are 4592 mm long, 1852 mm wide and 1629 mm high. The wheelbase is 2765 mm. By size, the ID.4 sits between the T-Roc and Tiguan.
There are no official technical specifications yet. Insiders say the ID.4’s driving range will be above 400 km (311 miles). The electric motor’s power is about 200 hp.
British Auto Express considers the Hyundai Kona Electric, Kia e-Niro and the Tesla Model Y to be the main rivals for the Volkswagen ID.4. Interestingly, the Jaguar I-Pace is absent among the expected competitors: maybe, journalists think that the ID.4 and I-Pace are in different price categories.
Today there is no information about the price of the German electric SUV. We dare to assume the Volkswagen ID.4 will cost around 35,000-40,000 euros.
Like the base ID.3 hatchback, the ID.4 crossover will enter the European market in 2021. The model will be sold in all key markets of Volkswagen, including the United States.
