According to the information from Japanese media, a more practical, five-door Suzuki Jimny is finally out next year.
The current Jimny is 133.7 inches long, 58.1 in wide, 67.9 in high (3,395 x 1,475 x 1,725 mm) in its homeland. The global model is larger but still lacks space.
The Suzuki Jimny Long will have rear doors and 11.8 inches or 300 mm longer wheelbase. Suzuki planned to unveil it at the Tokyo Motor Show this fall, but the event is canceled due to the coronavirus.
This version will weigh more. So, the manufacturer wants to compensate for the extra mass by placing a more powerful engine, maybe even turbocharged, under the hood. A mild-hybrid system will be reportedly added.
These significant mechanical changes will influence the price. Expect the Jimny Long will cost 2-3 thousand dollars more than the global version. As for the appearance, the styling changes will be minor, except for the rear doors.
The Suzuki Jimny Long should arrive in 2022 together with a mid-cycle facelift of the current model.
