The first crossover coupe in the mainstream car segment will cost almost 30,000 EUR for the entry-level model. The new Renault Arkana is already available to order in France.
Until recently, the niche of coupe-like SUVs was occupied only by premium German brands: The Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, BMW X6, Audi Q8, Porsche Cayenne Coupe are stylish and beautiful, but expensive. The first representative in this class from mass-market manufacturers is Renault with its new Arkana.
It should be noted right away that it’s about the European version. The Renault Arkana for emerging markets is actually a different model. The non-European Arkana shares one platform with the Dacia Duster. It is worse equipped and not electrified.
The Renault Arkana for Europe is another matter. It comes with a 145 hp E-TECH hybrid powertrain, a 12-volt micro-hybrid technology for the powerful TCE 140 and TCE 160 engines. The vehicle with the top-end engine will enter the market in autumn 2021.
As a result, the price of the Arkana, which can already be ordered from Renault dealers in France, is almost twice as high as that of the version for Russia for example. So, the base ZEN trim with the TCE 140 engine will cost from 29,700 euros, with a hybrid powertrain – from 31,200 euros.
The Renault Arkana R.S. LINE top version is priced at 36,200 euros. This variant got the E-TECH 145 hybrid.
The Arkana has no direct competitors in this price segment yet. Renault says about “a new path” and “a key player in the SUV market”, about the high 200 mm ground clearance, spacious interior and other advantages of the crossover coupe. But won’t the price drown all the prospects? Still, 30,000 euros for a basic Arkana may well become a serious stop signal for buyers.
