The Renault 5 Prototype has been unveiled. The car is pure electric, but takes strong features from the original design of a cult 5 (known also as R5 or Le Car) model manufactured in 1972-96.
This modern reincarnation of the Renault R5 is relevant to its time: urban, electric, attractive.
Though the styling elements are taken from the original design, they hide modern functions: a charging hatch in the air intake, aero flaps in the rear lights. Fog lamps in the bumper are daytime running lights.
There is a nod to the original ‘5’ on the side grid, the wheels and the rear logo. The front end, a textile roof, a French flag in the rear-view mirrors underline the car’s belonging to France.
Other highlights of the Renault 5 Prototype include lighting-up front and rear logos, headrest lights and a name displayed on the dashboard’s small transparent screen.
The company has also presented its new Renaulution strategy informing of its plan for the next 5 years and beyond. By 2025, Renault will launch 14 core vehicles: 7 fully electric, 7 in the C/D segment. All new models will have an electric or hybrid version.
