Renault has introduced a new generation of the Kangoo van sharing its platform with the Renault Scenic. The new model goes on sale in summer.
The new vehicle will be available in petrol and diesel (75-, 95-, 115-hp BluedCi) versions, and an all-electric ZE. Transmission choices are a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic EDC.
The van’s highlight is a sliding door called Open Sesame – a unique feature for a commercial van you can add to both sides of the vehicle. Such a door locks to the cabin door, B-pillar is absent, safety and torsional body rigidity aren’t affected.
Longer things can be loaded in tight spaces, when full opening of the rear doors is impossible. A max load length is 3,550 mm, a side opening is 1,446 mm.
The standard Kangoo provides a cargo volume of 3.3 m3, a 3-m floor-length is available in addition.
The Kangoo Maxi is 500 mm longer. A one-tonne payload is possible. The cargo volume is 3.9 m3, and 3.55 m of load length.
The van offers such ‘goodies’ as a roof-mounted rack and a pivoting rack system.
The all-electric Kangoo ZE features a new 44-kWh battery. Its max charging power is 75 kW. The claimed range is 159 miles. You’ll need 4.5 hours to fully charge the van from an 11-kW wall box; with a DC charger, you’ll achieve a charge of 80% in 42 minutes.
The ZE version boasts an electric parking brake, a wide-angle mirror set into the passenger sun visor to reduce blind spots, and a rear camera in place of the rear-view mirror.
The 2021 Renault Kangoo’s safety suite includes AEB, Lane Keep Assist, Cross Wind Assist, adaptive cruise control with traffic assist, and trailer stability control.
