The digital premiere took place yesterday at the virtually recreated DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague.
The new generation features Skoda’s trademark crystalline design, LED technology, other latest techs and gadgets. It is 48 mm wider and 110 mm longer (4,108 mm long now), and still remains a practical small hatchback. The boot enlarged by 50 l to 380 litres. The wheelbase is 94 mm longer.
For the first time, the Skoda Fabia is based on the modular MQB-A0 platform. At launch, the Active, Ambition, and Style trim levels will be available. The sporty Monte Carlo variant will follow later.
Five Volkswagen Group’s petrol, more efficient engines – two 1.0 MPI 3-cylinder ones, two 1.0 TSI engines, and one 1.5 TSI 4-cylinder – deliver power outputs from 48 kW (65 PS) to 110 kW (150 PS). Transmission choices are a 7-speed DSG, a 5- and 6-speed manual gearbox.
A drag coefficient (cd) of 0.28 makes the Fabia the most aerodynamic car in its segment. The new Fabia can reach a driving range of more than 900 km according to WLTP test.
In addition, it boasts five new Simply Clever features: a new clip for a credit card or car park ticket/an elastic band as a pen holder, a removable cup holder, a box on the transmission tunnel for small items, a flexible storage compartment for the boot, and a sun visor. Smartphone storage pockets, USB-C socket on the rear-view mirror are offered too.
A dual-zone Climatronic is available in the 2022 Fabia for the first time. New driver assistance features include Travel Assist, Park Assist, as well as Traffic Sign Recognition, Front Assist with Predictive Pedestrian and Cyclist Protection.
The interior highlights include the first in the Fabia 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with 5 layouts, a heated windscreen and a heated steering wheel, new colours, ambient lighting. There is a choice of three different infotainment systems with 6.5-, 8- and 9.2-inch screens.
